Kintsukuroi
Kintsukuroi is my first album of music. In college, I had found myself doing composition work by necessity - there were only a handful of students that were studying music in my Simulation Arts and Sciences major. When we would get divided into groups to make student games and group projects, almost all the teams were lacking a sound designer! I ended up getting my first taste of music-making via those late nights in the studio.
Along the way, I started to post music on my Youtube channel, where I tinkered with different programs and made covers of game music. I had played in a lot of bands in high school, but a lot of my own compositional sensibilities were self-taught and came together in a hurry. Famitracker was a perfect fit for both the fast prototyping requirements I needed, while also being a bit more of a technological approach to music-making (not to mention free). Eventually I moved to more robust versions like 0cc-famitracker, as well as other trackers like Open ModPlug Tracker.
When I look back at Kintsukuroi, I mostly remember the feeling of momentum around the time of its composition. The food was bad, the music came quickly, and there wasn't a lot of time to overthink it. It was a good time.
